COURSES OFFERED
Master of Journalism & Mass Communication (MJMC)

It is a two years full time semester basis PG Professional Course which is affiliated to Utkal University, Odisha. The annual intake capacity of students is 30 from all streams who have completed graduation from a recognized university.

The courses of studies cover broader area of communication like Principles of Communication, Development of Media, Reporting, Editing, Electronic Journalism, New Media Technology, Media Management, Law & Ethics,Development Communication, Layout, Design & Production, Communication Research, Advertising, Public Relations, International Communication & Intercultural Communication, specialization in any one (Odia Journalism, Film Studies, Cyber Journalism, Broadcast Journalism) Dissertation and Practical and Viva-voce.

Research Projects

To make communication process effective, both teachers and students from this department engage in research activities and bring out existing social problems to public notice.

Student Profile

The total intake of students in the first batch of the course is eleven. The ratio of female to male is 40:60. 50% of the students belong to SC, ST and OBC category.

Concurrent Field Work

Theory without practical knowledge is being idealistic rather than pragmatic. That’s why apart from indoor class room teaching, the Master of Journalism and Mass Communication students get chance to attend various programmes that take place across the city, report them and send them to media organizations for publications. With this, students get firsthand experience with the real world and of the field that they would carry on as their profession in future.

The Varta

The Varta is a wall magazine published by students of the communication department once a year. Like all other years, students have brought out the same this year. The purpose of it is to encourage students to express their hidden talents and their writing skills. Thus, students select various topics on social, economic, cultural, sports, education, sanitation issues and write them as news stories, which are published in the Varta.
